MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF SUSTAINABLE APPROACHES

Abstract

Natural resources are fundamental to human survival, economic development, ecological stability, and social well-being. Forests, water, land, minerals, biodiversity, and energy resources provide essential inputs for agriculture, industry, domestic consumption, and ecosystem functioning. However, rapid population growth, urbanisation, industrialisation, unsustainable consumption, deforestation, pollution, climate change, and excessive exploitation have placed increasing pressure on natural resources. The present study examines the management and conservation of natural resources with particular emphasis on sustainable approaches. The study is based on secondary information obtained from government reports, international organisations, research publications, environmental databases, and policy documents. It analyses major challenges associated with natural resource management and evaluates conservation approaches such as sustainable resource utilisation, watershed management, afforestation, biodiversity conservation, renewable energy adoption, waste management, community participation, technological innovation, and environmental governance. The study argues that effective conservation cannot depend solely on governmental regulation; rather, it requires an integrated framework involving communities, industries, researchers, civil society, and policymakers. The analysis indicates that sustainable natural resource management requires a balance between economic development, environmental protection, and social equity. Strengthening institutions, promoting resource-efficient technologies, improving environmental awareness, and encouraging participatory management can contribute significantly to long-term resource security. The study concludes that sustainable management and conservation of natural resources are essential for achieving ecological resilience, inclusive development, and intergenerational equity.
